Dr. Kaufman is a UT Austin alum, in Plan II as an undergrad and with a
Ph.D. from the UT clinical psychology program. She interned and trained at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge and established a practice there for five years before moving to Santa Fe. There she worked in conjunction with the public schools and in community mental health as well as in private practice for eighteen years, specializing in treatment of children, teens, families, couples and individual adults, with particular interest in helping children and their parents to address learning and school-related issues. In 2004, Dr. Kaufman, her husband Dr. Koppell, and their two sons moved to Austin where they enjoy being close to a large extended family. Since returning to Austin, Dr. Kaufman has established a general practice which includes work with adults and couples, children, teens and families.
Our Bios


Dr. Koppell received his B.A. in Psychology from Columbia, his M.A. and Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara, and his postdoctoral training at Boston University. He interned as a Harvard Clinical Fellow at Boston Children's Hospital and the Judge Baker Child Guidance Center in Boston. He was an Assistant Professor at U.Mass Medical Center, and trained at the Cambridge Family Institute before leaving Boston to live in Santa Fe, where he worked for eighteen years in private practice, as well as in school, hospital and community mental health settings.  In recent years, Dr. Koppell’s ongoing training and continuing education have been in the therapeutic areas of Somatic Experiencing and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, and his practice has been focused on individual treatment of adults and couples therapy.
